Some time before the iPhone 3GS was launched, I bought an iPhone 3G at full price (no contract) because I wanted one. When the contract I was on at the time had come up for renewal I, sensibly, decided to stick with my 3G (the 3GS wasn’t enough of an improvement) and get a super cheap sim-only contract, and it has worked well for me thus far. My iPhone 3G still does all the things I need it to, and my contract is a bargain (unlimited text and data, 200 minutes, £20pm).
However, my contract does not expire until June 2011, and I am getting bored with my perfectly functional phone (it’s a miracle I didn’t get bored sooner). I can’t really justify spending £400+ on a new phone outright, so what are my options? I could try and get an Android phone for cheap, but I would only end up with an Android alternative to the 3G, and what I’d want would be an Android alternative to the iPhone 4.
So I’ve decided, in the meantime, to content myself with hacking around with my current phone. You see, my 3G came locked to 02, and I’m with T-Mobile, so I unlocked my phone on the principle that I paid full price for the bloody thing, and I’ll use it how I please! Despite having a jailbroken iPhone from the start, I have never really played around with it too much. So I’ve started looking into potential projects, and have narrowed it down to three ideas.
Windows Phone 7 Theme
I have thought for a while that Phone 7 might be the cake that brings me back to Microsoft on the mobile front, and this theme just makes that desire stronger.
Android Theme
There area ton of the Android themes for the iPhone, ranging in realistic…ness and complexity of install. Who knows, it is a good looking OS.
Actual Android
I don’t think I’ll be going with this just yet; Android has been ported to iPhone but it is still quite buggy and I’m not so interested that I’d just put it on for the novelty; I’d want to be able to use it.
So they are my options. So far, I’m thinking the Windows Phone 7 Theme might be the way forward… for now, at least.
